Cellulite, for most who suffer from it, sadly is an unavoidable part of ageing. It usually begins occurring after puberty and it’s a condition where the skin appears to display areas with underlying fat deposits, giving it a dimpled, lumpy appearance. It is most usually noticed on the thighs and buttocks and predominantly affects women.
Treatments for the reduction of cellulite are very popular and have evolved over several years. One of the most recent advances is SmoothShapes. A treatment that involves non-invasive, laser-powered technology which manipulates enlarged cells and restores them to their former shape to reduce the dimpled appearance. This can be carried out on anyone and is a smooth, painless process guaranteed to leave your skin looking better – and you with more confidence.
Cellulite, although not damaging to health, is unfortunately regarded by most as an unsightly condition. It can affect confidence and body image, especially among those who regularly wear swimwear or exercise wear. Cellulite is associated with poor diet and lack of exercise so most women feel that there’s inevitably a stigma attached to it, and indeed project their ideals onto others. This is why cellulite reduction treatments have always proved so popular and scientists have continually sought new methods of attacking the unsightly spread of dimpled fat pockets to leave the skin looking clearer, less pasty and healthier.
It’s possible to reduce the development of cellulite by eating healthily, drinking plenty of water and exercising regularly, but this only helps until a certain extend. Most women are genetically predisposed to develop cellulite and getting completely rid of it, seems almost impossible.
SmoothShapes uses a new technique called Photomology to reduce cellulite. This is a pioneering treatment using a combination of suction and massage whilst emitting both light and laser energy. It works by a laser penetrating the skin and is being absorbed by the existing lipids, creating a thermal effect. The light then affects the permeability of the fat cells, allowing the fat to move out of the existing pockets. Essentially, this technique allows for the restoration of enlarged cells through a unique combination of manipulation of the fat cells through massage and vacuum. The result is skin with a visibly smoother appearance.
SmoothShapes treatments have several advantages including:
• Being painless
• Using a revolutionary and therefore most effective technique
• Giving long lasting results
There are some patients who will only have a short window of time either before a planned event or to be able to take out from work and this is why SmoothShapes being able to offer a 3-day treatment programme is perfect. It allows for immediate and effective results; more so than any other cellulite reduction technique. This also means that patients are able to plan around it, making the procedure much easier.

How do I know that I am a suitable candidate?
Because SmoothShapes is a non-invasive procedure, requiring no ingestion of medication or anaesthetics, this means that broadly speaking this is a procedure suitable for all. Patients with skin complaints should seek extra medical advice, but it is unusual to find someone who is not suitable for the treatment.
Will it be painful?
The Photomology technique is not painful. The patient will feel pressure, but on a constant level so it will remain the same throughout. This can sometimes feel uncomfortable, but it does not hurt.
Are there any risks?
No procedure can ever be described as risk-free, but if that description were to apply then the SmoothShapes cellulite reduction treatment would be one of them. There are no medicines, no needles, no hospitalisation required – it really is a straightforward, simple, effective treatment.
How long will the recovery take?
Your skin is likely to feel a little sore afterwards and you should take extra precautions for a couple of days until it has all settled down. So if you’re looking to go mountain-biking, or sunbathing in ninety degree heat, then it might be best to factor in a couple of days rest. But for other activities you should continue as normal.
