With such an extensive array of cosmetic surgery procedures available, which are the most popular procedures today?

Breast augmentation

Women seek breast augmentation for a variety of reasons, the most common being to increase volume and fullness after breastfeeding or significant weight loss or simply to enhance their image and self-confidence. Breast augmentation does not correct drooping breasts. If you want your breasts to look fuller and to be lifted due to sagging, a breast lift (mastopexy) may be required, alone or in conjunction with the breast augmentation.

Liposuction

Liposuction slims and reshapes specific areas of the body by removing excess fat deposits and improving your body contours. Most commonly treated areas are the tummy, waist, hips, and thighs. Liposuction can be performed alone or combined with procedures, such as a breast reduction or a tummy tuck. Liposuction is neither a treatment

for obesity nor a substitute for proper diet and exercise. Best results are obtained if your skin has good elasticity, since liposuction alone will not tighten your skin.

Eyelid surgery

Also known as blepharoplasty, eyelid surgery can be performed on either the upper or lower lids, or both. It can treat loose or sagging skin on the upper eyelids, puffiness within the eyelids, bags under the eyes, as well as drooping lower eyelids and fine wrinkles.

Tummy Tucks

For those who’ve been left with excess skin after losing weight or after having a baby, a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty is a possible solution. Abdominoplasty is fast becoming one of the most popular procedures as it takes away loose skin and excess fat, tightening the muscles for a slimmer, more toned tummy.

Facelift

Ageing of the skin of the face does not necessarily reflect the rate that the rest of our body and mind is ageing. A facelift improves visible signs of ageing in the face and neck, such as deep creases and folds, sagging, as well as loose skin and excess fatty deposits under the chin and jaw that are giving the appearance of a double chin. The best candidates are those whose face and neck have begun to sag, but whose skin still has some elasticity.

Which are the fastest growing procedures today?

Some surgeries may not have as many patients as the most popular ones, but the rate at which they are growing is certainly reflective of the current aesthetic trends.

Male Breast Reduction

Plastic surgery for men is definitely on the rise, and one of the main procedures men are looking at is male breast reduction. Larger than normal male breasts (gynaecomastia), tends to be rather common and is a cause of much embarrassment and low self esteem even in young males.

Arm lift

Or “Bingo Wings” surgery is the removal of excess, aging skin from the upper arms and gives tighter, and more toned arms. Today this is an ever increasingly popular treatment especially among mature ladies who feel self-conscious about their ‘flappy’ upper arms.

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should always seek the advice of an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
